Our Academy

A century ago, in 1912, the Kurdish Student-Hêvî Association established in Istanbul became the first major step in Kurdish youth's determination to claim their language, culture, and identity. Publishing journals such as Hetawî Kurd and Rojî Kurd, this association was not just a student community, but a school that trained future Kurdish intellectuals, writers, and politicians. They gave life to our language with works like "Hînkera Zimanê Kurdî" prepared for the preservation of Kurdish. Names such as Fuad Temo, Kemal Fevzi, Mehmed Şükrü Sekban, and Kadri Cemil Paşa emerged from among them; new horizons opened in their footsteps.

However, this torch of enlightenment, which was forced to fall silent in 1922 in the face of oppression, is being reborn today in the heart of the Kurdish people: Hêvî Akademî.

Founded on April 22, 2025, to keep alive the ideals of the Kurdish Student-Hêvî Association, Hêvî Akademî takes its name from the Kurdish word "Hêvî," meaning "hope." Just like Kurdistan, the first Kurdish newspaper published in Cairo 127 years ago, it was born as a continuation of a consciousness and desire for freedom that doesn't extinguish even in exile, beyond borders. With the spirit of that first newspaper, this time using the possibilities of the digital age, it speaks to young Kurdish generations.

Hêvî Akademî aims to teach Kurdish youth their history, language, and culture, inspiring them to discover their true identity and gain the courage to introduce themselves to the world. It aspires to be a cultural bridge uniting every Kurdish youth from the mountains of the homeland to the distant villages of the diaspora.
